An Actual Outfit

Below is what I wore on the TV last week - Tuesday, perhaps?  You'll probably recognize the dress, as most fashion/style bloggers snatched it up from Target:

It's the Mossimo rayon, faux-wrap dress.  Some ladies (like Kendi) got the solid colored dress.  Some ladies (like Kasmira) bought the yellow print version.  I was happy to snatch it up in the blue print.  So pretty!  So water-color-y!

SO.  FREAKING. SHORT.

Dudes, seriously.  This is such a short dress!  It wasn't this short when I bought it - sadly, the washer made it so.  Even though I carefully followed the washing directions on the label, it shrunk a good inch in total length.  Even the waist-line shrunk up from my belly-button up to my natural waist (where I indent on the side).  But I still think it looks okay, yes?

Although it is no longer office appropriate, I still wear it for TV and going out.  Because sometimes?  It's okay to flash a little leg.

It's Kind Of Like Clothing

Well my friends, I'm outta here.  Out of MN, that is.  Me and the Posse are heading to the wilds of Kenosha to bust a move at the Bristol Ren Faire.  This Saturday is their annual Day Of Wrong.  Here is a idea of what I'll be wearing:

My Fishing Opener Courtesan costume.  In this picture, it's about halfway finished - since then I've lengthened the bloomers, hemmed the dress, did a bunch of handstiching, added clasps in the front, grommeted the inside and put in the sleeves (actually, my bestie, Laura, put in the sleeves.  I hate doing that.).  I also decorated my hat and shoes and made straps to afix a Billy the Big Mouth Bass to my back.

Go big or go home.  It's not just my motto, it's a way of life.

On Sunday, I'll be cooling off in my belly-dancing gear:

I made that jingle bra out of 6 yards of trim.  Hand-stitched.  SIX FREAKING YARDS OF IT.  But look, it's so shiny!  The collared vest worn over it prevents me from feeling too naked.  Plus, it's made of my all-time favorite fabric:

Bad-ass chasuble fabric!  Like the Pope wears!

Please excuse the straps hanging down in the back.  I fixed them so they fit correctly, with no dangly bits.

Can't Wait

To keep with that horror-lovin' theme my blog is SUPPOSED to have, here is a brief list of the scary movies I'm dying (bleah, PUN) to see.  Some are out on video, and some are still in the works:

YellowBrickRoad - out on video, but I don't know if my local Red Box carries it.
Prometheus - Michael Fassbender + Alien back story = AWESOME.  Out in 2012.
The Woman in Black - ghost story with Daniel Radcliff?  Sign me UP.  Out in 2012.
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - I *heart* Guillermo Del Toro's work, and Katie Holmes is surprisingly good in this genre.  Out this summer (squee!!!!)
Pandorum - I know my local Red Box has this, I just need to find the time to watch it.
Wake Wood - this already was in theaters, but I don't know if it came out in the US.  Video, perhaps?
Apollo 18 - GAH, the release date was postponed!  I hope that means this flick doesn't suck.  Out this fall, I hope.

Yet Another Question For The Masses

Well.  A question for the one or two of you who drop by ;)

There has been much talk in throughout the history of fashion bloggers about the influence of movies on their personal style.  We all have movies that encourage us to dress in a certain way or try out certain fashions. 

My personal style movies are:
Breakfast at Tiffany's (natch)
Heathers (hey, it was the 80's!)
Clueless (hey, it was the 90's!)
Coyote Ugly (yeah... there's no excuse for that one)

I also have been influenced by movies in my costuming - Dangerous Beauty, Elizabeth, Room With A View, OUT OF AFRICA OHMYGAHFOREVERYTHINGALLTHETIME....  Ehem.  Sorry.  Really love that movie, though.  SO MUCH PRETTY!!!!!  *stops that*

However, has a horror movie every influenced your fashion?  I wracked my brains to figure out some scary flick that made me want to style myself like the hapless heroine.  And here's what I came up with:

The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  I liked Jessica Biel's jeans.
Mia Farrow's hair in Rosemary's Baby.
All the women's cool 60's styles in Psycho.

And that's about it.  What say you?

Too Hawt For Cute

The last few days in MN have been ungodly hot and humid.  Like, 81% humidity.  That's FLORIDA conditions, my peeps, and we are not built for it in the land of ice and snow.  However, before our weather went all sideways, I got one last cute outfit in:

 Note my wackadoo hair.  This shot was taken after I had been in the rain for a few hours.  Lovely, cool rain.  Granted, at the time, I was less than thrilled about the weather:

Stupid me.  If I had known what the weather gods had in store for our fair state, I would have embraced the 75 degree rain with both damp arms.  Live and learn, I guess.

Question for the Masses

I am not the most tech-savvy blogger in the world.  So bear with me on this one...

How do you leave a comment on a blog with Disquis?  Several of my favorite fashion bloggers have Disquis (sp?), and after about 10 minutes of trying to leaving one comment, I give up and move on.

Casual Wednesdays

Wednesdays are often my day off during a seven-day period.  I teach a lot on the weekends, I have office meetings Mondays and Fridays, and I'm on TV Tuesdays and Thursdays.  So Wednesday is my day to play.  Or rather, do an assload of chores.  Whatever.

Wednesday is also my day to wear whatever the heck I want.  And this Wednesday, I wanted to wear the following:

My under-utilized, army-green tunic.  Under-utilized because it wrinkles a ton and it's snug around my booty.  Also, according the photo above, it makes my legs look stumpy.  Maybe it's the camera angle...

That's better.  I may look like a dork, but at least I'm not all Stumpy McGee.  I'm also basking in the sunshine in this photo.  I should have basked more - it's been raining since Thursday morning.  *sigh*

Note the footwear.  These shoes used to be my go-to summer sandal, until I had a realization.  They make my flat, duck-like feet look even more flat and duck-like.  I should be paddling around in a pond somewhere.  However.  Look at the shiny!  Silver leather sandals can flatten my feet any day.
