Nothing New Under The Sun

Today's outfit is a retread of a look I often wear - dress + cardigan.  But it works for me, and better still?  It works for when I have to be on the Tee Vee.  The dress part is dressy enough, and the cardigan gives me something to attach my mike pack to.

Can you see all that sunshine pouring in from the window off to the right?  YAY SUN!!!!  It's finally summer around these parts, and that means I can finally wear my cute sandals:

This is my sad attempt at the infamous "Grab The Heel Of Your Shoe" pose.  Not my favorite.  I'd rather show off my cute shoes like this:

That's more like it!
Brown 3/4 sleeve cardigan, rando teeny-bopper store
Water-color tank dress, gift from Dad and StepMom from Dillard's dress department (LOVE)
Brown t-strap sandals, um.  I don't remember.  Sorry!!!
Gold coin necklace, Opitz Outlet

In all honesty, I didn't wear this outfit for long.  I changed into grubbies to clean my garage:

Just keeping it real, folks.

I'm Still Standing

Someday, I'll get the hang of posting outfits every day.  Or maybe more than once a week...

In the mean time, here's what I wore last Thursday, when it was SO FREAKING COLD in Minnesota.  Seriously, it was October weather in June, which makes most of the denizens of my fair state a wee bit cranky.

above: A Girl And Her Vacuum.

Or?  above: The All-Day Sucker.  Bwahaha!  Okay, I guess I'm the only one who finds that amusing.

Why am I posing with my vacuum cleaner?  Why not... and because I had left it over by the bookshelf in a reminder to myself to actually USE THE DARN THING.  My house is in dire need of cleaning, peeps.

I actually don't mind vacuuming, it's the dusting that always gets me down.

Umm.  Huh.  I look like I'm about to devour a man, then clean his living room.  And no, that is NOT a euphemism for anything.  Moving on.

Olive drab draped cardigan, Forever 21
Mauve tunic tank top, Marshall's
Skinny jeans, Express on clearance
Black boots, Circa Joan & David from Macy's?  I think?
Vacuum cleaner, Bissell from Walmart

Second Verse, Same As The First

So.  Today's outfit looks very, very, VERY similar to what I wore on Friday.  T-shirt, same style pants, chunky sandals, the whole nine yards:

Please excuse the grouchy face.  I took these pix this morning, and I am NOT a morning person.  Plus, it's been raining so much in MN, I feel like I'm living in Waterworld - and I HATED that movie.

But I LOVE these shoes:

They were on clearance last summer at Old Navy.  They aren't the easiest things to walk in, but they fit well and don't pinch or rub anywhere.  Yay!

And so not to appear so cranky, here's a happy face:

Pete and Repeat:
T-shirt, BCBG by way of Value Village (a mere $7.95!)
Skinny cargo pants, Target Mossimo brand
Sandals, Old Navy
Necklace, Lia Sophia

Thug-Life Heidi

It's Friday, so that means I get to dress myself up in a theme outfit (granted, that theme is usually unintentional, and doesn't reveal itself until I'm looking at the outfit photos).  Today's theme is yodeling in the hood, yo.  Multiple chain necklaces always reads very gangsta to me.  At least, on my body, it does.

The obviously fake braid in my hair was an attempt to dress up a bland, I-don't-wanna-do-my-hair ponytail.  Even though it is SO VERY FAKE, I kind of love it.  I bought two blonde braids, for a grand total of $15, to use for costuming.  But I think they might find their evil fake way into my mundane wardrobe.

The other big story about today's outfit are the AMAZING AWESOME SHOES OF GLORY.  Behold:

Behold some more:

On a side note, GAH.  Why does my ankle look so fat at that angle?  Ick.  Moving on.

Today's ensemble was inspired by a sad affliction - backne, aka zits on my back.  They have reached critical mass, and I had to coat my entire back with extra strength zit cream.  Which will bleach ones clothing.  Therefore, I had to wear an old bra and a plain white shirt.

However, a white t-shirt and pants does not a stylish outfit make.  Thus, the pile o' necklaces, the Heidi-esque braid and the amazing shoes I thrifted yesterday.  Good shoes and enough jewelry can elevate any look, don't you think?  Yes?  No?  Whatever, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The Hills Are Alive, Holmes:
T-shirt, Target Mossimo brand
Skinny cargo pants, Target Mossimo brand
Black chunky sandals, Aeresoles by way of Value Village in Richfield, MN
Fake braid, Claire's Boutique
Necklaces, Tassle necklace is from a garage sale and the pearled one is from Savers.

P.S.  My shoe purchase was totally and completely inspired by the awesome sandals Sally McGraw wears over at AlreadyPretty.com.  I even refer to them as my Sally shoes.

Other Stuff I Wore

As you may have guessed - I like to wear costumes.  I like to design them, I like to plan them, I like to make them (mostly), and I like to wear them on appropriate - and inappropriate - occasions.  It is How I Roll.  And here is how I rolled last weekend at the Chippewa Valley Ren Faire:

Please excuse the wrinkled skirt.  My power went out the morning of the Faire, and thus, so did my iron.  Sigh.  Normally I would have pressed IN the pleats and pressed OUT the fold lines.  I also need to shorten the hem - the underlying farthingale (hoop skirt thing) isn't too short, the skirt is just too long (I kept stomping on it with my stompy boots).  I'll eventually add a boat-load of trim, too.  Also, also, the hat looks wonky because the band that holds it on my head done broke.

Here I am, trying to give good My Space Face, as one does in period clothing:

And in true Wench Posse (the name of my costuming group - we are a sassy lot) fashion, Too Much Rawk For One Hand:

The Deets:
Doublet style bodice - pattern by Margo Anderson, cut out by me, sewn by my bestie, Laura, hand-sewn by me.
Partlett (the white, froofy shirt) - pattern by Laura, cut out by me, sewn by Laura, hand-sewn by me.
Pleated skirt - cut out by me, pleated and sewn by Laura.  Eventual changes, will be done by me.
Basket - JoAnn Fabrics.  Yes, I carry a basket.  DEAL WITH IT.
Hat - La Paloma by way of my buddy, Ashley.  Trimmed by me.
Snood type thing - sewn by me.
Excessive jewels - gifts from my peeps, and teeny-bopper stores.

Note a theme here?  Laura sews, I cut out.  We play to our strengths, and I have mad cutting skillz, yo.  Also, I am a slow sewer, so Laura whipped this out for me in two hours.  She is a pro, peeps.  Don't worry, I repaid her fine work by drafting up a pattern, and cutting out a dress for her:

So I'm not a total lazy slacker, I promise.

Liar Liar Pants On Fire

So yeah.  I told Megan Mae that I would NEVER wear boots in the summer.  Well, I am a lying liar full of lies, apparently:

I am so ashamed.  I am also SO FREAKIN' COLD.  We are in the deep freeze up here in Minnesota.

Okay everybody...shhhhhh...don't tell Megan!

I'm wearing boots!  On June 10th!  Which is clearly summertime.  But at least they're cute boots, amiright?

My lying outfit full of lying lies:
Olive drab knit cardigan, Forever 21
Polka-dot tunic T-shirt, Lucky Brand via my SIL
Leggings, JC Penney's
Buckle boots, Target
Octopus necklace, gift from my buddy, Ashley

P.S. I have no idea why my hair is looking so whackadoo.  Sorry about that.

Scottish Rocker Pirate

Sometimes, you got to have a theme.  And last Friday night's theme was vaguely Scottish.  But with my pirate boots and octopus necklace.  And a corset-style belt.  Yeah.

Why was I dressed like that, you ask?  Well, I answer, to get a free pint at my new favorite pub, Merlin's Rest.  If you wear a kilt, tartan or a corset, they reward you with free boozle!  And far be it from me to pass up free.

Since all my corsets are definitely underwear, I decided to fudge it a bit with a corset belt.  Then, I threw in some tartan, to make it extra beer-worthy.  And then my faux-leather jacket to make it RAWK:

I even channeled my inner-early-80's-Madonnna.  But only for a moment:

And then I stopped.  To answer the obvious question, yes.  I got a free pint.  Yum!

What's going on:
Black faux-leather jacket, Target by way of the Salvation Army lower level
Tartan dress, Saver's
Corset belt, Target for real
Black leggings, JC Penney's
Black pirate boots, Payless
Octopus necklace, gift from my buddy Ashley
