Yet Another Question For The Masses

Well.  A question for the one or two of you who drop by ;)

There has been much talk in throughout the history of fashion bloggers about the influence of movies on their personal style.  We all have movies that encourage us to dress in a certain way or try out certain fashions.

My personal style movies are:
Breakfast at Tiffany's (natch)
Heathers (hey, it was the 80's!)
Clueless (hey, it was the 90's!)
Coyote Ugly (yeah... there's no excuse for that one)

I also have been influenced by movies in my costuming - Dangerous Beauty, Elizabeth, Room With A View, OUT OF AFRICA OHMYGAHFOREVERYTHINGALLTHETIME....  Ehem.  Sorry.  Really love that movie, though.  SO MUCH PRETTY!!!!!  *stops that*

However, has a horror movie every influenced your fashion?  I wracked my brains to figure out some scary flick that made me want to style myself like the hapless heroine.  And here's what I came up with:

The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  I liked Jessica Biel's jeans.
Mia Farrow's hair in Rosemary's Baby.
All the women's cool 60's styles in Psycho.

And that's about it.  What say you?

  1. Does historical-type horror-ish films count? Because then there's Dracula (where Winona Ryder's wardrobe is all wonderful), and Depp's Sleepy Hollow with the fabulous b&w striped dress.

  2. Hi!

I really don't have any answers for your questions (sorry! But I can't think of any)

I just wanted to give you a big THANK YOU for enlightening me about the downtown Salvation Army's "fake Target basement." I went there today and I am in LOVE.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

I am a Target 75% off clearance rack stalker and I can now get that stuff for cheaper than that! :)

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and I love your blog! And I miss seeing the Cheap Chic segments on the Buzz. I watched faithfully for a year when I was unemployed. I finally got a great job in May, so I can no longer watch.

  3. Not horror movies, per se, but I've been hitting the sci-fi movies hard for inspiration. From Chronicles of Riddick to all the Treks, I've been obsessed with steampunk and "retro" futuristic styles. I don't really know how my outfits come across to everyone else, but some days I get dressed thinking of a specific character or tv show or genre and feel special all day.

Does Rocky Horror count? I wanted to be Columbia when I was younger. I technically have her haircut now. I'm still itching for a pot of manic panic.

(Fyi, I think you would look AMAZING with a pixie cut)

  4. I sometimes let movies inspire my outfits, too.
That's why I plan a blog challenge called "Movie Monday" (http://stilldark.wordpress.com/2011/07/05/im-still-here-announcing-monthly-movie-monday/). Maybe you're interested, too?

  5. A few movies where the clothing really resonated with me:

    - Meet Me in St. Louis
    - Amelie
    - Desperately Seeking Susan (hey, it was the 80's!)
    - Deadwood (OK it's a TV show but still...)
    - The Thin Man (actually all the movies in the series -- I love Myrna Loy's outfits)
    - Cabaret

For horror movies, I guess the first Terminator movie is the closest I can get -- any time I need to put together a cheesy 80's outfit (which is surprisingly often) I always watch the scene in the dance club for inspiration!
